- 5/2/20-research a visual effect in detail.
A special effect is a visual illusion such as being fake punched or is a visual trick such as make up.
A visual effect is a effect that is added in after the scene has been filmed such as an explosion.
Special effects:
Prosthetic makeup
Prosthetic makeup is realistic make up used by filmmakers to create monsters and deformed faces.
This enhances the film so that the actors are able to act and still look like a monster.so they can act with body movement and still look scary.
Stop Motion
Stop motion is a type of animation that allows the animator to manipulate the puppet.This gives a more original feel to the animation.its real objects so the way that it is not perfect adds to the feel of the movie.
Pyrotechnics
Pyrotechnics are controlled real explosions in movies or gunshots or anything that can be deadly in a movie they are controlled by people called pyrotechnicians.This enhances the movie by making the explosion real and authentic.
Puppetry
Puppetry is the use of artists making puppets for films.This allows them to make mythical creatures realistic.This enhances movies by making them feel real even tho there are many fake pieces in them
fake blood
This gives the blood more realism then if they did the blood in post production.They make the most realistic blood possible by using red and blue food colouring making it more real.
This enhances the movie by making it seem more real and effective.
Visual effects:
Bullet Time
The video shown above is an example of what is called bullet time.Bullet time is a visual effect or visual impression of detaching the time and space of a camera (or viewer) from those of its visible subject.It is a depth enhanced simulation which means it seems like time is slowing down for the viewer and normal things that could be fast enough not to see in real time and slows it so you can see it on camera for example a flying bullet like shown in the video the bullet is moving slow enough for you to be able to focus on what is happening.This enhances the scene dramatically.

CGI
CGI(Computer-generated imagery) this is the form of making any object or organism in a film in the video above is shows how to create a CGI wolf and how to control it.The creator of this video makes creating the wolf look easy and simple.Adding in objects and organisms add dramatically to a film and means that actors can work with deadly animals without having to have them in the same room causing severe health and safety risks.
Motion Control Photography
Motion control photography is where you shoot 2 or more shots and put them over each other to make one final shot.This can create cloning.They do this with a robot camera which is coded and then films with the exact same movements this means when you put the 2 shots together they are in sync and fit together.
Digital Compositing
Digital compositing in simple terms is changing the background or removing/adding things to the background of actors they often do this with a green screen behind the actors to make the actor have a more realistic background.This enhances the background and the film.
Virtual Cinematography.
virtual cinematography is the form of using a cameraman to shoot in an entirely virtual world therefore the camera movements will look more realistic and will make it seem less like a visual effect.Therefore the film seems less fake but also allows shots that they couldn't get without it being Virtual.This enhances the film by making it more realistic and more like a film shot on set.

Detailed Analysis
CGI
This allows the film maker to add in so many different aspects to a film.This will have a massive effect if there wasn't CGI in films there couldn't be any controlled appearances by dangerous animals in movies.
In CGI every single step is very important from the modelling of the Character to the animation there are many steps in character modeling and animation. When you first start your CGI character you need to have a concept this means you will an idea of what and how you going to create these characters.Then after your concept you will need to start modeling this means you will need to get a feel and shape of the basic character.

Matte painting
Matte painting Mini FMP
For my Mini final major project I wanted to experiment with matte painting. I wanted to include a hanging rock which I could green screen myself onto so I looked up photos I could start the matte painting with I came across this picture and thought it would suit it well.
After I had the original picture I decided to add some more of the overhanging rocks and flip the image.
after I added the rocks and flipped the image I thought of creating a more little islands out at see I also had the idea of having rain fall in my video so I decided to to make the image darker and add a tint of blue.
I then added the video off me to edit over the matte painting
after this I added many rain effects to create a cooler atmosphere.
Then I ended with sound effects of rain.
Hi Thomas, your research is done just to a satisfactory level, I would have been hoping for more insight in to what you gained from each bit of research, this felt like the start of your research
